The Department of Music offers students the opportunity to minor in Musicology. This 15-credit-hour minor is for students who are interested to examine the forms, methods, and functions of music, in Western and non-Western cultures, apart from the applied study of musical performance. There is no audition to pursue the Musicology Minor.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

A 2.00 GPA in minor requirements.
At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
A minimum of 15 credit hours.
No grade of ‘D’ is accepted to the Musicology Minor.
Only six hours may be double counted from the Music major.

The Musicology minor requires successful completion of 15 credit hours of the following courses:

MUSI 101 - Music Fundamentals Credit(s): 3
OR MUSI 130 - Music Analysis I Credits: 3
MUSI 339 - Music Literature Credit(s): 3
MUSI 205 - Perspectives in Music: World Musics Credit(s): 3

Choose 6 credits from the following:

MUSI 206 - Perspectives in Music: Hollywood and Broadway Credit(s): 3
MUSI 207 - Perspectives in Music: Jazz and the American Experience Credit(s): 3
MUSI 302 - Independent Study in Fine Arts Credit(s): 1 to 3
MUSI 340 - Music History I Credit(s): 3
