Film Studies Minor

The Film Studies Minor is an interdisciplinary minor that provides students with the opportunity to learn about the production, distribution, exhibition, history and theory of film from a range of aesthetic, anthropological, cultural, economic, political and social perspectives. Students are exposed to a variety of genres and approaches to film as well as gain practice analyzing films through in-class discussion, written and visual production assignments.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A 2.00 GPA in minor requirements.
  2. At least nine hours of the program requirements must be completed at Truman State University.
  3. A grade of ‘C’ or higher must be achieved in all courses applicable to the Film Studies minor.
  4. A maximum of 8 credits may be used to satisfy a student’s major, any minor, or the Dialogues requirements.

Program Requirements


The Film Studies minor is based on successful completion of at least 15 credits from the following courses:

Required Course (3 credits)


 

Area 1: Theory (at least one course)


Additional Credits (1-3 credits)


Remaining credits needed to fulfill the minor may come from any of the areas above.

Note:


In consultation with the student’s academic advisor and as approved by the Film Studies minor committee, either: A) One Internship and Evaluation of Internship (e.g., internship in film production, working at a film museum, assisting a film festival, conducting film preservation work, supervising a film project, etc.) and public presentation on internship, OR B) One Undergraduate Directed Readings on a film topic and public presentation of project can be also counted toward the elective credits for the minor. Public presentation of the project could happen at the Student Research Conference, Senior Seminar Conference, Women and Gender Studies Conference, Philosophy and Religion Conference, NCUR, etc.
